MobileFBS

MobileFBS is a replacement of HeritageFS' FBS laptop-based billing software. The application is centered around a .NET Compact Framework PDA application running on Windows Mobile 2003/2005 with a SQL Server Compact 2000 backend.

To replace the full-sized laptops and Oki data printers, ruggedized PDAs and thermal wireless printers were installed. This hardware was wired directly to the trucks electrical system, removing cigarette lighter chargers and the large mount in the truck. Drivers can now leave the PDA & printer in the truck through the whole year, reducing the possibility of broken parts from taking the hardware to and from the cab.

When the drivers return from delivery, the data can be synced over a secure VPN back to the main office via a wireless connection. Changes made by the driver are then seen immediately. In turn, any changes (product or customer additions, assignments, etc) are sent back to the PDA. Data is now centrally-driven and filtered down to everyone through one point of entry.

Billing is done from different remote locations now and not the drivers themselves. Office staff can connect to the server remotely and transcribe tickets into their main application.
